Greig Taylor
(inducted 2007)

Dear King Neptune:

I am writing to be considered for induction into the Blue Water Society of the Manhattan Yacht Club.

I have spent a considerable amount of time on most of your oceans over the past couple of years, covering in excess of 35,000 miles.  As you may recall, I paid my respects to you twice, in November 2004 and May 2005, whilst crossing the equator.  Thank you for a safe passage each time.

To refresh your memory I was crew onboard SAIC La Jolla, skipper by Eero Lehtinen, one of the 12-strong fleet of yachts in the Global Challenge 2004/05 Round the World Yacht Race.  We covered 32,306 miles over 169 days at sea starting from Portsmouth in the UK in October 2004, stopping at Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town, Boston, La Rochelle and back to the UK again in July 2005.  Our longest stretch at sea was for 38 days, covering 7,149 miles from Sydney to Cape Town.  Ours was a west-about route against the currents and winds, and so my beating ability is quite advanced!

In addition to this race, I have completed several Fastnet races, and numerous English Channel crossings.  More details can be provided upon request.

I hope this is all of the information that you require, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any more.

Fair winds, Greig Taylor - March 2007
