USCG-Licensed Captains

Manhattan Sailing Club is looking for USCG licensed Captains with 6-pack, 50 ton and 100 ton licenses to help run certain sailboats, the clubhouse in the harbor and the launch which brings members to and from the clubhouse.  $20 per hour.


 Clubhouse - Honorable William Wall
100 Ton license minimum

Manhattan Sailing Club operates the "Honorable William Wall" in NY Harbor.  This vessel is certified for 149 passengers and is moored in the Hudson River.  The club uses this vessel for teaching adults how to sail and for starting and finishing club races. 

This vessel is in operation 5 days per week, Tuesday - Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to close (average 10 p.m.) and on Saturdays from 1 noon to 9 p.m. 

There is no navigation involved in being the captain of the Honorable William Wall as the vessel is fixed and does not move. 

Captains responsibilities include helping passengers embark and disembark safely from the floating dock, overseeing the mates and staff to make sure vessel is ship shape and that systems are operating properly.

Captains of this vessel should have a buoyant personality as they will be the primary people welcoming members onboard.


Admiral's Launch
50 Ton license minimum

This vessel is used by the club to launch people from North Cove to the clubhouse in the harbor.  The Admiral's launch is a 40-ft former Navy utility boat.  The launch drives to and from the clubhouse all evening.  Each trip is about 10 minutes plus a 5 minute loading and unloading process. 

This vessel is in operation 5 days per week, Tuesday - Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to close (average 10 p.m.) and on Saturdays from 12 noon to 10 p.m.

Captains of this vessel should have excellent boat handling skills.


Big Toot
50 Ton license minimum

This vessel is operated by Project City Kids and provides free rides to kids every Saturday and Sunday.  Each trip is 50 minutes in duration.  The first trip departs at 9 a.m. and then every hour with lunch break from 12 noon to 1 p.m.  The final trip starts at 4 p.m.

Captains of this vessel should have excellent boat handling skills as well as patience with loading strollers and communicating with kids and parents.


Golf Launch
OUPV license minimum

This vessel is operated by North Cove Marina from Tuesday through Sundays.  There are two shifts every day, the first from 7 am to 2 p.m. and the second from 2 pm to close (as late as 9 pm).

The golf launch runs between various stops in Manhattan and a golf course in Jersey City.  The vessel is a 33 foot powerboat and is operated by a captain and mate.

This is a very high end operation and requires captains who are very capable and well presented.
