Laser & Sunfish Sailing 2011
Permitted Sailing Area The club's dinghy sailing program will be Saturdays and Sundays this summer. There will be an afternoon session from 12 noon to approximately 4 p.m. At noon, you will meet Greyhound at North Cove and motor out to the dinghy sailing area. The dinghy coach is Hans Jensen who was assistant coach of the Connecticut College Sailing Team. Hans will teach sailors how to rig their boats. On water, he will provide coaching, drills, practice starts and other training to the advanced dinghy sailors. Hans will be assisted by Tucker Yaro or Angelo Valitutti, depending on the day. Initially, this program will be open to 12 sailors, 6 Sunfish and 6 Laser, per day. All beginning dinghy sailors should start on Sunfish. You can sail the Sunfish with 1 or 2 people. Once you master the Sunfish and demonstrate your ability to right a capsized boat, then you can advanced to the Laser if you wish. There will be racing for both Sunfish and Laser classes. Costs: $20 per session. Members will be responsible for any lost equipment. You must take extra care when rigging and unrigging the boats. Special care should be given to the rudder which sinks and cost more than $300! Make A Reservation: This is a member-only program. No guests are permitted. Once you make a reservation, your name will appear on the club reservation page usually within 24 hours. You may have only 1 dinghy reservation on the books at a time. To be fair to all members, please do not make a reservation unless you know you can absolutely make the sail. |
