De Foxy Mon Race

The First Race of the Summer Series

"De Foxy Mon Race" is named after the world famous proprietor of Foxy's, the beach bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands.

For many sailors, Foxy personifies the casual and laid-back attitude we all hope to achieve at some point in our lives.

The idea for the De Foxy Mon Race originated at the Millennium celebration at Foxy's.  Along with thousands of other sailors, several of our club members were there and the experience was inspiring.

Therefore, to honor the concept of endless summer and to celebrate the feeling of lying in a hammock beneath a palm tree with a drink in one hand, the Manhattan Yacht Cub has decided to honor Foxy by naming the first race of our summer series after him.

The winners of De Foxy Man Race will be recorded on engraved plaques displayed around a print of Foxy's beach bar.  The print has been framed, and in keeping with the spirit of Foxy, the brass plaques are on order and should be ready in a year or two, we think.

To make this a Foxy Celebration, the participation of all sailors is needed.  First, summer costumes are appropriate and there will be a prize for the best teams.  Second, each team is asked to bring a bottle of Mount Gay Rum to the clubhouse.  The club will arrange for the Caribbean music, the ice, the mixers and limes.

Summer is here.
