Fall Racing SeriesOn October 11, the decision was made to continue the Fall Racing Series. The series will be a bit different than before. First, we polled skippers about when they could race. The overwhelming majority said weekends. However, some teams could race only certain days or certain weekends. It will not be possible to gather all teams for either Tuesday or Wednesday on any specific day. Therefore, we will create a new solution. This will be a jumbled series in which boats have the opportunity to race against each other. We will designated 4 days for possible racing. These will be October 20, 21, 27 & 28. Your team can choose to race on any 2 of these 4 days. In other words, if you can only race on Sundays, you can choose October 21 & 28. If you can't race the first weekend, you can race Oct. 27 & 28. You can decide based on your own schedule. All scores will be based on average finish and all teams will be ranked against each other. At the end of the 4th day of racing, we will have a winner. Some competitive teams might get a little carried away with this new concept. Some might try to schedule their days when there will be less boats racing or they feel the competition is light. This is not the point. Some members are lucky to be alive. This is a great effort to complete our racing series and begin to return our lives to some degree of normalcy. The spirit of our club is camaraderie ahead of competition. Sure you can try to win and in fact, you are expected to sail as hard as possible. But being involved is what matters. Worrying about the scoring is an insignificant thing. There is still one variable, whether Battery Park City will be opened to the public. If yes, members will be able to board the boats from North Cove. If not, we will ferry the boats from North Cove to Liberty Harbor Marina and board there. Please sign up for the 2 days you are able to compete. You are only allowed 2 days. If some boats are left over, we need to let some of the cruising members also enjoy the harbor. We will try to complete 3 races each day. The first 2 races will be around the normal club courses. The 3rd race will be Around Governors Island (if conditions permit). The first race will begin at 10:30 a.m. We will try to be back at dock by 5 p.m. Please bring your lunch. If time allows, we will have a 1 hour lunch break after the second race. During this break, boats can anchor in the cove near the Stake Boat. The club powerboat will then ferry sailors from their boat to the Stake Boat so that everyone can eat together and enjoy the view. You can sign up for any boat. Because there are so many variables, we can not give first-rights to any team (2 teams already race the same boat). Therefore, choose any boat you desire and have fun. Boats will be allocated on a first-come basis. Register to Race Here: Boat Reservations:
Directions to Manhattan Sailing Club docks at Liberty Harbor Marina. Liberty Harbor Marina is located in Jersey City at the southern end of Marin Blvd. The marina is on the north side of Morris Canal. Our boats are located on "T Dock" which is just to the west of the fuel dock and directly in front of the New York Waterway trailer. There is no ferry to this marina on weekends. The easiest way to get to Liberty Harbor Marina is by PATH. Take the PATH train towards Newark or Journal Square. Exit at Grove Street which is the second stop after the Hudson River. Then walk south on Marin Blvd. The marina is at the end of the road. This is a 5-10 minute walk. You can also get a taxi at the PATH stop. The cost for a taxi ride is about $3.50. You can also drive your car to the marina. There is plenty of parking. |
