Where to sail on Barnegat Bay

In 2007, to celebrate our club's 20th Anniversary, we revived G-Sloop sailing on Barnegat Bay.  G-Sloops were a racing class built in the late 1930s for local clubs.  In the 1960s, participation in the class declined and racing ended.

Our club has acquired the last 2 G-Sloops known to be in existence - G1 "Shamrock" & G12 "Fugitive."  G12 is fully restored and incredibly beautiful.

The G-Sloops are kept at Beaton Boat Works in Mantoloking, NJ.  Beaton's is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from New York City.  Members can drive down to the Jersey Shore, sail the G-Sloops and return to the city or spend the night in a local hotel or bed & breakfast.  This opens up a whole new sailing opportunity for members.

To sail on one of the G-Sloops, you must be certified for this vessel.  The certification process will teach you about the boat and how it works and also discuss the local sailing area.  Once you are certified, you can sail on the G-Sloops free of charge in 2009.

In 2009, G-Sloop certifications will be offered Thursday, July 16 through Sunday, July 19.

To schedule your certification, please click here.  The certification will take approximately 3 hours an include a sail on the bay.
