Check out: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/Raster/index.htm. The site also has free viewers. In the United States, all official nautical paper charts produced by NOAA's Office of Coast Survey (OCS) are available for download. A fundamental tool of marine navigation, NOAA's Raster Navigational Charts are produced by scanning at high resolution. NOAA adds data describing the chart, its datum, projection, and they can be updated with Notices to Mariners. I recommend charts designated 12334, 12335 and 12341 for "studying" our sailing area." Feb 2010 Wes Freeburg writes, "NOAA and the Office of Coast Survey has a nifty, free online chart viewer that allows a sailor to view up-to-date charts on the Internet to use for planning or analysis tools. Nov 2008 Ian Fuchsloch writes, “Just recently came across the following webpage - http://demo.geogarage.com/noaa – which basically superimposes NOOA and Google earth maps. Thought that it might be something interesting to add to the “links” section. June 2008 Rahul Vemula writes, "I wanted to submit an useful link to be placed on the website. www.tideapp.com. This is a website is designed to be accessed particularly through the Iphone (or any computer which runs the Safari web browser) which has tide predictions for hundreds of locations through the united states. To get tides for NY Harbor, one must simply open up www.tideapp.com on the Safari Web Browser on the iPhone. Then click on States, select New York, scroll town to "T" and select "The Battery - New York Harbor." Under the New Jersey tab, there are also tide predictions for locations further north which may be useful to members sailing out of Hoboken. I know that many our fellow members of the club have the iPhone so I thought that this would be useful. Enjoy! May 2006 Wesley Freeburg has updated the Crew Overboard description available on our web-site under "Club Info" - "Using Club Boats" based on the results of testing done at the Crew Overboard Symposium 2005, in San Francisco, CA. See http://www.myc.org/Using%20Club%20Boats/crew_overboard.htm for a detailed discussion of these important maneuvers. Dec. 2005 Jacqueline Swensen recommends a knot website www.grogono.com/knot Here's an incredible website for local river and harbor charts going back to the 1800's. http://anchor.ncd.noaa.gov/ Click on New York and enjoy! The UK Sailmakers website has an animated rules quiz. This is a page that must be checked out by every serious racer: http://www.uksailmakers.com/RulesQuiz/index.html Joe O'Connor reports on a fabulous webpage with shows knot being tied in animation.
