It's a wonderful place to be sailing but I had to abort my trip the last time and the school is only able to give transferable credits instead of a full refund, so am looking to see if anyone wants to buy it over. They also would give a $300 credit if you want to pick up the boat elsewhere in the Grenadines." gong@chicagobooth.edu Jan 2011 Clifford Franklin writes, "NOAA has an experimental product that you can print at home for FREE. BookletChart™ are made to help recreational boaters locate themselves on the water. The Booklet Chart is reduced in scale and divided into pages for convenience, but otherwise contains all the information of the full-scale nautical chart. Bar scales are also reduced in scale, but are accurate when used to measure distances in a BookletChart. Excerpts from the United States Coast Pilot are included. Most chart notes are consolidated on a single page for easy reference. Emergency information for the charted area is printed on the back cover. These booklet charts make interesting reading for club skippers and potential skippers. http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/staff/BookletChart.html July 2010 Keith Cooper writes, "Want to find out what the conditions are at Robbin’s Reef but can’t access the internet? NOAA’s Dial-A-Buoy gives mariners an easy way to obtain weather reports when away from a computer/the Internet. Wind and wave measurements taken within the last hour at buoy and coastal weather stations operated by NDBC and a growing number of Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS®) partners can be heard using a cell phone. To access Dial-A-Buoy for Robbins Reef, dial 888-701-8992 using any touch tone or cell phone. When answered, response to the prompts are 1-76264-1-2. (76264 is keypad for ROBN4). http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/dial.shtml May 2010 Ed Bacon writes, "How about adding a link to www.iboatnyharbor.com on your member notices page?" March 2010 Wes Freeburg writes, "Official NOAA Nautical charts for free online! Check out: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/Raster/index.htm. The site also has free viewers. In the United States, all official nautical paper charts produced by NOAA's Office of Coast Survey (OCS) are available for download. A fundamental tool of marine navigation, NOAA's Raster Navigational Charts are produced by scanning at high resolution. NOAA adds data describing the chart, its datum, projection, and they can be updated with Notices to Mariners. I recommend charts designated 12334, 12335 and 12341 for "studying" our sailing area." Feb 2010 Wes Freeburg writes, "NOAA and the Office of Coast Survey has a nifty, free online chart viewer that allows a sailor to view up-to-date charts on the Internet to use for planning or analysis tools. See: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/OnLineViewer.html and http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/12327.shtml Feb 2010 TJ Shea reports, "Due to the reconfiguring of the pilot area and the deepening of the Ambrose Channel (which extends the channel seaward), the buoys from the old Ambrose Light thru the upper Hudson Bay/River have been renumbered. NOAA has updated their electronic charts and will be publishing paper charts in March 2009. For us, Buoy 29 is now 33 and Buoy 31 is now 35. NOAA’s on-line chart views is at http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/OnLineViewer.html. Their download site is at: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/Raster/index.htm (raster charts) or http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/enc/index.htm (electronic navigation charts)." Nov 2008 Ian Fuchsloch writes, “Just recently came across the following webpage - http://demo.geogarage.com/noaa – which basically superimposes NOOA and Google earth maps. Thought that it might be something interesting to add to the “links” section. June 2008 Rahul Vemula writes, "I wanted to submit an useful link to be placed on the website. www.tideapp.com. This is a website is designed to be accessed particularly through the Iphone (or any computer which runs the Safari web browser) which has tide predictions for hundreds of locations through the united states. To get tides for NY Harbor, one must simply open up www.tideapp.com on the Safari Web Browser on the iPhone. Then click on States, select New York, scroll town to "T" and select "The Battery - New York Harbor." Under the New Jersey tab, there are also tide predictions for locations further north which may be useful to members sailing out of Hoboken. I know that many our fellow members of the club have the iPhone so I thought that this would be useful. Enjoy! May 2008 Wesley Freeburg writes, "Sailmaker UK Halsey has released an excellent Man-Overboard training video, depicting crew overboard recover techniques when under Spinnaker. See http://www.ukhalsey.com/LearningCenter/mob.asp. You'll probably need to give them an e-mail address for access. Well worth it!" May 2006 Wesley Freeburg has updated the Crew Overboard description available on our web-site under "Club Info" - "Using Club Boats" based on the results of testing done at the Crew Overboard Symposium 2005, in San Francisco, CA. See http://www.myc.org/Using%20Club%20Boats/crew_overboard.htm for a detailed discussion of these important maneuvers. Dec. 2005 Jacqueline Swensen recommends a knot website www.grogono.com/knot Here's an incredible website for local river and harbor charts going back to the 1800's. http://anchor.ncd.noaa.gov/ Click on New York and enjoy! The UK Sailmakers website has an animated rules quiz. This is a page that must be checked out by every serious racer: http://www.uksailmakers.com/RulesQuiz/index.html Joe O'Connor reports on a fabulous webpage with shows knot being tied in animation.
